Sunset Engagement Photoshoot at Kelly Butte Fire Lookout
Some of our personal favorite hikes in Washington are hiking up to fire lookouts. So, of course we were super excited when Marley & Nick chose Kelly Butte for their engagement photoshoot. This Fire Lookout has stunning views of Mount Rainier and surrounding mountains. And on a clear day you can even see Seattle!
The best Washington fire lookouts for your engagement photoshoot
Do you want to hike up to a fire lookout for your engagement session? Here are some of our favorite “short & sweet” fire lookout hikes:
You’ll find the Red Top lookout after a steep, but easy to follow, 1.5 mile hike. From there you can enjoy a beautiful 360 view of Stuart Range, Mount Rainier, the Chelan and Entiat Mountains, and Teanaway Ridge.
Kelly Butte Lookout
Whereas earlier this lookout was only accessible via a scramble, nowadays you can also reach Kelly Butte via a trail. Zigzagging through wildflowers and rock walls, the trail is less than 3.2 miles long. On a clear day you’ll be able to see Mount Rainier and in late summer you might want to stop to harvest some delicious huckleberries. For this lookout you have two options. Craving adventure and a challenge? Take the longer route of 16.6 miles with 2800 feet of elevation gain. If you want to keep it easy and simple you can just go for the 1-mile hike up to the lookout. Once at the top you’ll be able to enjoy wide views of Mount Rainier and the White River Valley.
